New Players in Concert

New Players in Concert, or simply “Concert,” is one of the highlights of the New Players season. For many, it is the first time that they are on the New Players stage and everyone who wishes to participate will get a role. The show takes place over a four day period during the weekend leading into the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.

The show is made up of three components: an opening and closing number that involves all the students; student directed musical vignettes from a single show, usually 3 songs in duration; and senior New Players solo performances (vocal, dance or monologue).  The rehearsals begin in December and are initially held at one of the directors homes. There are also rehearsals of the group opening and closings at RHS.

The schedules are coordinated by the student directors and it is important for the students to clear any scheduling conflicts with their individual directors.

The casts are broken up into two sections, block A and block B. Typically, Block As performance will be Thursday at 7 and Saturday at 8 and Block B will be Friday at 8 and Sunday at 7. We may also schedule matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 2.

While your child’s full performance will be on the night of their assigned block, he or she will need to be present for the opening and closing numbers for all the performances.
